Everyone can use the super cool FastPass+ system There’s been lots of chatter about the MyMagic+ program, but what I’m really excited about is Disney’s new FastPass+ system, which allows you to reserve not only attractions, but also space for shows, parades, fireworks and even some character meet-ups. This isn’t just for those staying at Disney hotels, either — anyone who buys tickets can make reservations up to 30 days in advance. (Resort guests get to reserve 60 days out.) You can make three advance bookings per day, per theme park. Say goodbye to even more waiting on lines! 3. This summer, they’re opening a freaking Four Seasons, right in the middle of everything Experienced travelers who’ve paid top dollar to stay at Disney’s “Deluxe” hotels often find that, well, Disney’s idea of luxury can vary quite widely from their own. For years, I’ve wondered: Why don’t they just call in someone who knows what they’re doing? Say hello to the Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World, opening in August just behind the Fort Wilderness Resort (how’s that for a contrast).

The Battle To Save The Polynesian Resort Waterfall

read this pic10

It is said that because of the new additions, traffic in the lobby is expected to increase and the iconic centerpiece of waterfalls, pools and exotic flora will now be removed. I am heartbroken. So many memoriesthat oddly fantastic smell that immediately brings back childhood memories of past tripsthe real centerpiece of the resort, I realized, will soon be gone forever. I felt I had to do something. So I started a petition to save the Polynesian waterfall area. As of this moment we have over 1,700 signatures. This petition is not meant to divide people as I know there are some that welcome change, as I often do in certain situations that I believe call for it.

1. “New” Fantasyland is finally done A serious rethink of the heart of the Magic Kingdom finally wraps May 28, with the debut of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Coaster. This kid-friendly (but fun for all ages) coaster, in the tradition of the timeless Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, will be a must in a part of the park that’s already packed with essential stops. Also new at Fantasyland this spring: the daytime Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade, bringing some of the classics (Peter Pan, Rapunzel, Ariel and the like) to life. 2. local time this morning for a “Rock Your Disney Side” party, where guests are encouraged to come in costume and spend the day and night at what we like to call “Grad Night for Grown-ups.” The kick-off at the Magic Kingdom this morning. Photo by Matt Stroshane, courtesy Walt Disney World. I attended the first 24-hour party, One More Disney Day , at Disneyland in 2012, and last year’s “Monstrous” party at the Walt Disney World . Family obligations are keeping me from the parks this year, but everyone who can’t be there in person can follow along online with live video streams from the party. Here’s the live feed from the Magic Kingdom: These are really more webcams than true live streams, as they offer only video and no sounds. But it’s a pretty nice way to kill time on a Friday! Disneyland is offering four cams, which will capture some of the many entertainment events in the parks tonight.

But those who arent avid planners arent required to take part. It works for everybody, said Sinoff. There are a lot of experiences available. Most are available day-of. So its not that you have to plan before you come, its that you can. But there is already a divide Disney has created in the system. Those with reservations at a Walt Disney World hotel can book FastPass+ reservations up to 60 days in advance while annual passholders and day guests can only book 30 days. We heard from our resort guests that they prefer to plan far in advance and we heard from our day guests and our pass holders that they want a lot of spontaneity, said Sinoff. From that, Disney decided to offer a longer window in which hotel guests can make their FastPass+ reservations.

The project, which includes enhanced data collection, is also designed to make purchases easier and to give Disney more personal information about its guests, ultimately leading to more spending on food, souvenirs and other items. Franklin also negotiated the deals that led to Hong Kong Disneyland and the forthcoming Shanghai Disneyland. All Chris Queen wanted to be growing up was a game show host, a weather man, or James Bond. But his writing talent won out. By day, Chris is a somewhat mild-mannered office manager for an IT managed services provider, but by night, he keeps his finger on the pulse of pop culture and writes about it. In addition to his Disney obsession (as evidenced by his posts on this website), Chris’s interests include college sports — especially his beloved Georgia Bulldogs — and a wide variety of music.

Within a couple hours of FastPass+ bookings becoming available for the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train ride (opening May 28 ), more than 50,000 signups had already occurred, according to McPhee. There was so much interest that the online system http://theorlandovacationstore.com was temporarily brought to a halt. Likewise, FastPass+ selections filled up quickly as soon as word spread that they were available for Star Wars Weekends . FastPass+ reservations disappeared fast for the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at the Magic Kingdom. In fact, FastPass+ is being used by 40% more people than the previous system was, according to Disney Parks and Resorts chairman Tom Staggs, who also added that Disneys guests are experiencing more attractions and exploring the parks more extensively than they did while using the original FastPass, spending less time running around grabbing passes. MyMagic+ as a whole is an ongoing and ever-evolving program. Unlike officially opening a ride with a grand ceremony, Disney has opted to not cut the ribbon, so to speak, on the new system since they intend on making small but regular changes and upgrades to it. We want to continue to evolve in a very realtime basis, explained McPhee, adding that its a rather unusual rollout for Disney.

You can pretend otherwise, but I’m not going to. Here are some comments left by supporters on the petition page: The lobby of the Polynesian Resort is a wonderful treasure, created by Disneys legendary Imagineers, and uniqueit does not appear at any other Disney hotel. It is important to both the heritage of the Walt Disney Company, as well as the many guests who revere the Polynesian Hotel for its welcoming lush recreation of a far-away place. Without the lush vegetation and the waterfall in the lobby it will lose the unique qualities for which its customers return. Rather than pleasing customers with your proposed redesign, you will do nothing but disappoint them. Ive only been to Disney World 3 times since 2008 but my first visit to the Polynesian was on my last trip. I fell in love with it as soon as I walked in the door. Its like stepping onto a beautiful island! My 11 year old daughter and I constantly talk about how we would LOVE to be able to stay there one day. For now, we are glad to be able to stay at value resorts and visit the deluxe resorts for meals and exploring.

Its never going to be done. Its all about innovation for the future. There are big plans for MyMagic+ ahead, though Disney isnt ready to disclose what those are just yet. Integration with attractions is certainly on the horizon, allowing guests personalized data to customize experiences. Disney has previously offered examples of Mickey Mouse magically knowing a guests name and that they are celebrating a birthday or riding through its a small world and seeing dolls that the guest had customized online show up digitally alongside their boat in the ride. The possibilities of RFID-triggered interactions are endless. But the technology that makes it all work will remain hidden from the average guests view.

A rooftop restaurant featuring Magic Kingdom views, a pool complex that will include a proper click lazy river, plus that famous Four Seasons service and atmosphere will make this one of the top places to stay in the entire city, the moment it opens. 4. Downtown Disney is changing with the times You’ve seen one touristy shopping village, you’ve seen them all, right? Decades after the concept was inaugurated, Disney appears to have realized that its “Downtown” needed a proper makeover. Rebranded as Disney Springs, an ongoing redo (through 2016) will give the project a more village-like look and feel — it’ll also greatly expand the amount of shopping, dining and entertainment found there. It’s even getting a little bit hip — a fleet of popular food trucks making their way around the resort will find a permanent home this summer in a new Food Truck Park — there’ll even be an elevated, linear hang-out spot above it that’s a direct crib of New York’s popular High Line Park. 5. The 24-hour events are here to stay (hopefully) Kicking off at 6 a.m.

Fighting, fainting and near disaster in the ABC sitcom’s season finale finally gave way to joy over park rides and fireworks. But first the Heck family learned the tickets it had won were to Disneyland , not Disney World. Guest relations smoothed out that fiasco and gave the Heck family a swank hotel room. The Hecks embark on a road trip to Walt Disney World and attempt to stay positive despite a barrage of mishaps that threaten to ruin their trip, on the one-hour season finale of ABC’s “The Middle.” More troubles cropped up: Daughter Sue ( Eden Sher ) needed medical attention twice, first for fainting, then for eating too fast. Son Brick ( Atticus Shaffer ) dawdled over getting a mouse-ears hat and fretted over losing it. The family slept late, and son Axl ( Charlie McDermott ) fumed that his family wouldn’t get on rides. “What is wrong with this family?” exasperated mom Frankie ( Patricia Heaton ) asked.
